Cooking with a Cause: Discovering Turkish Culture Through a Simit-Making Class

Cooking with a Cause: Discovering Turkish Culture Through a Simit-Making Class

On January 11th, our Istanbul Center was filled with the delightful aroma of freshly baked simit as participants gathered for a hands-on cooking class. Guided by local culinary enthusiasts, attendees learned the art of making simit — the beloved sesame-coated Turkish bagel.

This immersive culinary experience went beyond cooking. Following the class, participants indulged in a traditional Turkish breakfast, featuring olives, cheese, jams, and, of course, their homemade simit. The cozy atmosphere and delicious spread created a heartwarming environment where attendees shared stories, laughter, and a genuine taste of Turkish hospitality.

Events like these showcase the Istanbul Center’s commitment to fostering cultural appreciation and bringing communities together through engaging, educational, and enjoyable experiences. We are thrilled by the enthusiasm for such cultural gatherings and look forward to hosting more events that celebrate the richness of Turkish heritage.
